Robert Novak's column ("Hyde helps cut legal aid funds," Aug. 16)unfairly tarnished the reputation of the Legal Assistance Foundationof Chicago as one of the nation's finest providers of legal aid tothe poor in civil matters. Novak wrote that, in 1997, the foundationgave a portion of its annual grant from the federal Legal ServicesCorp. to the American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois, and thatthis money was "used to oppose a partial-birth abortion ban and BoyScout membership restrictions."
