NSW: Ambos not to attend any sports from midnight Friday

Jockeys will decide today whether or not to saddle up this weekend despite assurances
no ambulance officers will attend race meetings if they are required.

From tomorrow night any sporting fixtures which requires an ambulance will be out of
luck as unanimous work bans have been placed on attending any sporting fixture indefinitely
by the ambulance officers.

An Australian Workers Union spokesman told a meeting of ambulance officers in Sydney
yesterday that jockeys were in support of their action.

An AWU spokesman says the union will recommend jockeys not ride at weekend race meetings
because of safety issues if paramedics are not on standby.

Weekend races and other sporting fixtures across New South Wales face serious jeopardy
after the ambulance officers voted yesterday to impose such new work bans.

Stalled negotiations on overtime claims and a refusal by ambulance officers to use
a new radio system have sparked the crisis.
